The area rug in my living room has seen better days. Let's face it: the better days for that rug was YEARS ago!
So, we were in the store looking at rugs...SCREECH!!! WHAAAT?!
I am a MAKER. I make stuff. All the time. I sew, quilt, knit; the glue gun is ALWAYS hot. It is what I do. (I have to tell you a story: One woman, who HATED me, once said, while rolling her eyes, "If you want to know what time it is, Lori will probably BUILD you a bloody sun dial!" That comment still makes me laugh, even though it happened years ago!)
Anyway, thanks to You Tube, my rug will be made by my hands using T-shirts which are sturdy and don't fray. One of my friends who makes T-shirt quilts will share some of her extra pieces which I am grateful for. I will also use some worn yoga pants that in Truth never touched a yoga mat!!! The old rug will just have to last a bit longer.
Here is my progress so far:
This isn't a formal home. Here, you can curl up on the couch under a quilt and read until your eyes become heavy and you need a bit of a nap. There are usually cookies or other treats on the counter. The dog will sit at your feet, anxiously hoping you drop crumbs. The cat will be there as well, pawing at your hand to get a nibble too. In this style of home, a rag rug is a perfect choice.
Am I saving the planet using however many T-shirts are kept out of the landfill? Not exactly, but every decision matters and I hope that every little bit helps.
So, I'm off to work on my rug. (Or, perhaps, to build a sun dial!!! Ha! Ha!)
Thank you for spending this time with me,
Lori xx
P.S. Some of you have asked to see some of the tree sketches I mentioned in last month's blog. Here are a couple of them:
I am recovering well from my surgery and would like to thank those of you who sent me good wishes for my health. xx
